When and why should I have
my dog spayed?

Research reveals that spaying a pet before puberty is best for the pet's well being. Most veterinarians recommend spaying between four and six months of age, after being completely vaccinated.

We recommend spaying all female pets that are not intended to breed. The benefits to your pet's health and to help reduce the pet over population crisis makes this decision easier.

The advantages of spaying your dog are:

  • Prevention of "heat" or estrus.
  • When in heat, the female experiences an urge to escape in order to find a mate. This behavior is eliminated.
  • Prevention of uterine infection.
  • Dogs who are spayed, before first heat,
have less than one-half percent chance of developing breast cancer.
  • Elimination of the risk to ovarian or uterine cancers.
